The History of Global Family

Global Family was co-founded by Carolyn Anderson, Marion Culhane, Jeff Daly, and Barbara Marx Hubbard and was born out of an event that occurred on December 31, 1986 called “The World Peace Meditation.” This event called for 20 million people to envision world peace at the same time to shift the collective consciousness on the planet.

Working with teams of people to put on events in the San Francisco Bay Area and in Denver, they saw the empowerment and transformation that could occur when a group of people aligned around a large vision.

Knowing that there were hundreds and perhaps thousands of teams just like theirs in every country, they created Global Family as a support structure to connect these groups, build on the momentum of this peace mediation, and enhance the resonant field around the world to shift the collective consciousness to unity and love.

Since 1986, Global Family has:

• Seeded thousands of supportive Core Groups internationally to connect people at the heart and activate their creativity in local communities.

• Collaborated with aligned groups and linked up peacemakers around the world to promote cooperation and co-create sustainable peace in our world.

• Conducted citizen diplomacy trips to the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe to support emerging democracy and to co-create programs that empower family members everywhere.

• Produced educational guidebooks, visual materials, newsletters and a monthly radio show to share the positive news of our times.

• Given birth to Hummingbird Ranch in northern New Mexico as a living laboratory for the evolution of consciousness and the flowering of a co-creative culture.

• Sponsored the Earth Guardians and the Children’s Torch of Hope, facilitating youth programs which foster environmental and social awareness through creative expression and global action.

• Staffed and supported the success of international peace conferences such as the Soviet-American Citizen’s Summits, the Global Forum and the Earth Summit.

• Sponsored regional “family gatherings” and workshops to empower people in their life purposes, and link them with others who share similar interests.

• Supported global peace events that connect our human family, such as Harmonic Convergence, EarthAid, and Global Family Day, which is celebrated on January 1st each year.
