Core Groups
We live in a time of radical change and remarkable opportunity.
Virtually every person, relationship, organization and institution
is going through its own form of transition as humanity and the
planet move to the next stage of evolution.
As communism and other centralized systems collapsed in Eastern
Europe and the Soviet Union and totalitarian regimes lost power
in Latin America, Africa and Asia, a vacuum was created that is
inviting new forms to emerge. The dominator model that created bureaucracies,
hierarchies and pyramidal organizations is giving way to a partnership
model that empowers individuals to express their full potential.
Outer authority is succumbing to inner knowing. Small groups are
springing up spontaneously in every community to emancipate the
talents of those who choose to participate.
The Core Group Process® of creating community is a natural
next step in evolution: a way to link consciously through the heart
to align small circles of people, and eventually much of humanity,
in the experience of Oneness. Core groups build family and team,
inspire joint action based on unconditional love, and have the potential
to create a "new world order" that is driven by spiritual
values rather than by competition, control, fear or greed.
During
this time of instability, the Core Group is a safe haven of support
- a place where participants can express all aspects of themselves,
learn to love their uniqueness, discover their life purpose, and
be supported to fulfill that purpose in the world. Eventually these
circles link with one another to create a field of resonant love
that is powerful enough to effect a shift in the whole field of
consciousness. Like small replicating cells, they come together
to build a healthy body of Gaia and bring humanity to the next stage
of its evolution: a co-creative species, cooperating consciously
with each other, with nature, and with the Divine Intelligence.
The Core Group Process® has been the foundation of the work
of Global Family since our inception in 1986.
We have shared our "Rings of Empowerment/Circles of Co-Creation"
model at conferences, meetings and trainings throughout North America,
Europe, South America and the former Soviet Union. We have seeded
two kinds of groups: "resonant cores" for people who want
support in discovering their life purpose and "co-creative
cores" for those who know their deeper purpose and desire to
express it with others.
In the summer of 1991 in Germany, the Czech Republic, and Poland
we conducted a series of 2 1/2 day gatherings called Living Peace
and shared the Core Group Process® with hundreds of Eastern
Europeans. We watched as simple exercises conducted in a field of
love and trust transformed scores of individuals before our eyes.
Participants experienced the potential of small aligned groups to
serve as an alternative to communism and Western-style capitalism,
and they committed to putting this model into practice in their
lives.
Based on our experience in working with other communities, we are
excited about the potential that can be realized as thousands of
people "follow their bliss," find their teammates, and
become self-supporting by expressing themselves fully!
We
know that the essential ingredient for transformation is love. When
individuals come together in a field of love, safety and mutual
trust, the creativity , power and wisdom of each person is liberated
for the betterment of the whole. The sense of separation within
people that leads to war, crime, pollution, and disorder can be
healed. As each person finds his or her place in the body of society,
every field of interest and endeavor is taken to a higher level
of expression. Thus business, medicine, education, communication,
science and the arts are going through a profound transformation
at this time. Core groups are emerging to support and empower personal
and planetary transformation. Step by step, we are building a global
community and reuniting our human family.

The Core Group Process for Creating Community:
The Essential Elements
The purpose of the Core Group is to facilitate individual
and collective transformation. As we become personally transformed
and awaken to express our love, we will begin to support this same
awakening in all those with whom we come in contact. As each of
us goes deeper within ourselves, we come to that place where we
experience our Oneness with each other.
So
what is the process of transformation? It may start with new insights.
It may begin when we see the "truth" for ourselves. For
example, we may begin seeing reoccurring patterns in our life or
maybe we have an extraordinary experience. Transformation occurs
when the reality of our Divine Self breaks through the illusion
of our separate-self perception. We are usually filled with awe
and inspiration at these times. But, unfortunately, these insights
often give us a moment of brilliance, like a shooting star, and
then fade into our daily routines.
It is through the experience of living our insights, or "living
our truth," that we become transformed. It is relatively easy
to sit and meditate as our Selves. It is a much different test to
maintain that state of grace of expressing our Self as we interact
with others. It is in the process of connecting with others, with
all others, that we have the opportunity to drop all judgment and
experience our Oneness.

Preparing for the Core Group Experience:
What is Your Need?
There seem to be two primary motivators for forming a Core Group.
Some people choose to form a group because they share a common purpose
or want to complete a specific project. For example, they may be
working together in a business and want to act within a field of
trust and resonance. Others choose to form a Core Group to support
each other spiritually. They are committed to their own and others'
full expression. It doesn't really matter which initial reason brings
us together. Ultimately, both aspects will merge to allow the individuals
in the group to manifest their unique gifts and help others to awaken.
A task oriented group which does not encourage deep bonding and
employ Spirit will eventually fade. A spiritually oriented group
which does not attempt to manifest Spirit in a tangible way may
also reach a level of diminishing returns. It is the natural order
of our beings to marry our love with our talents and skills. This
is why we seek more in our lives. The Core Group Process® enables
us to experience and express unconditional love. Through this process
we can create opportunities to ground that love into meaningful
projects.
This process may take people to places in their hearts they have
forgotten or did not know exist. There may be many moments of true
joy and some feelings of uncomfortableness as people share their
truth with others. Experience has shown us that learning and growth
frequently are accompanied by feelings of uncomfortableness; however,
to be able to know and openly share our True Selves with others
is a treasure well worth the discomfort.
A Safe Arena
The Core Group experience will have little effect on us if we leave
our egos outside the room while we access Self. (Ego refers to anything
carried within us which is not the Self.) It is important that we
bring to the group all our thoughts, all our feelings, all those
things we believe are us. This is the place to discover, in the
atmosphere of unconditional love and support, what is truly part
of us and what is not. And, with that knowledge, all things are
possible. The Core Group becomes the safe arena in which to fully
discover and express both our humanity and our divinity. It's a
place where we can release our fears and defenses and become comfortable
in acknowledging and expressing our highest.
How to Start a Core Group
Take the time now to be still and listen to the inner answers to
these questions. Write down the thoughts and feelings that come
up in response to these questions
- My vision of myself and my purpose is. . .?
- My purpose for participating in a Core Group is . . . . ?
- The people with whom I feel the most resonance are. . .?
- The groups to which I already belong that might be interested
in participating in the Core Group Process® are. . .?
Making the Commitment
You can begin sharing your interest in forming a Core Group with
the groups or individuals who have come to mind from the above exercise.
It is important not to convince someone to join the group if he
or she has reservations about such a commitment. Everyone choosing
to participate in the group must do so for himself, not as a favor
to, or on the advice of someone else.
The ideal number for a Core Group is difficult to prescribe. It
becomes a question of trust to know that those who are to be a part
of each group will find their way to that group. Four to twelve
people are most typical; eight to ten is probably ideal. Many more
than that makes it difficult for the deeper sharing and bonding
that is the intended goal.
Assuring Success
Once the group has come together, there are certain basic components
that support its success:
To begin the process, it's important that one person take the initial
responsibility. The person with the most enthusiasm and experience
in facilitating groups may want to focalize the first few meetings
until the group feels confident in rotating the leadership.
In this process, everyone takes full responsibility for the success
of the group. Each person speaks up when something is not working
for him personally or for the group. Individuals tell the truth
to serve the larger whole. By participating fully as a co-creator
of the process, each member has an opportunity to learn to be as
honest as possible in the moment with himself and each other. Thus
the Core Group fosters full self-expression.
